Jack Farrell now

What fills my Hours; Golf, several times a week, weather permitting. Lifelong fan and follower of St. Louis Cardinals; attended games when in Edwardsville, now MLBTV subscription allows us to watch all of their games, and they do play Rockies here several times a season. Also follow the Denver Broncos and University of Colorado football and basketball. Reading includes sabermetrics and quantitative approaches to golf, football, and basketball as well as economics, politics and a variety of fiction. Angie and I have especially enjoyed traveling in Canada and western US. We have also attended a number of Springsteen concerts in various locations over the last 20 years.
Family/Children; Married Angela DeGraff (’68) the same day I graduated and thus was able to share the experience with graduating brothers (Dan Polovina was best man); we have been married 50+ years and have a son, Brian, who lives in St. Paul, Minn.
After Central; One year at the University of Wyoming (MA in Political Science); then on to the University of Iowa for PhD in Political Science. Taught one year at Wyoming (1973-74) and then Southern Illinois Univ. Edwardsville which is near St Louis (1974-2005). Originally planned for emphasis in Latin American politics (esp. Argentina), but due to dismal job market after completion of PhD, ended up primarily teaching US politics and applied statistics/data analysis (not just “shooting the shit about politics”—much to the displeasure of many students). Taught off campus graduate courses in Washington, D.C. in early years and team taught in the business school at SIUE and served several terms as political science dept. chair during the later years. Angie worked at the Edwardsville Public Library. Both of us retired at the end of 2005. We moved to Colorado in 2014.
Phi Delta Tau Memories: A large variety of interactions and experiences with a diverse group of individuals, many great guys, some I would likely not have known without the fraternity; intramural sports (although some of the basketball was a Beake-Phi Delt combo team; Hunters & The Grill (worked at The Grill); fall afternoons (spring too) with Beach Boys blasting out the windows; working on decorations for Homecoming; House parties and woodsies; Unheated sleeping room in the House, especially in the winter.
