Dennis Vander Werff

Dennis and Susan Vander Werff

What fills my hours:
Since retiring in 2004, we have started to split our time between Wisconsin (7 months) and Florida (5 months). We enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, playing golf, traveling, fishing, riding bike, attending Badger football games, and attending local events.

Family and children:
I married Susan Leonard in 1969 and we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary this year. We have two children; Craig who lives in Port Washington, WI and Keri who lives in Deep Haven, MN. Both of our children are graduates of the Univ. of Wisconsin. We have three grandchildren; Jacob who will be attending the Univ. of Wyoming this Fall, Simon who will be a Sophomore at Minnetonka HS, and Katie who will be an eighth grader in Green Bay.

After Central:
I started teaching in New Glarus, WI where I taught Biology, Human Physiology, and Geography. I also coached Track and Football. I received my Master of Science in Science Education from the Univ. of Wisconsin while teaching in New Glarus. I then took a teaching position in Port Washington WI teaching Biology, Human Physiology, and Chemical Science. After teaching for thirteen years, I left teaching and went to work for Johnson and Johnson as a sales rep calling on hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois. I held various positions in Sales, Sales Management, and Marketing with Johnson and Johnson for the next 23 years. During my spare time I served on the Port Washington Board of Education, Dodge County Land Conservation Committee, Fox Lake Inland Lake District Board and consistory of the Randolph First Reformed Church.

Phi Delta Tau Memories:
My Pledge Father was George Smith. I remember living in the Phi Delt
house with brothers from all over the United States, a very important part of my college experience. We did not go home every weekend; we spent our free time as well as our class time together. I remember packing my car with Phi Delts and heading to Wisconsin to watch Central play Whitewater in the Football playoffs. I remember going to Mike Ashby’s wedding prior to our senior year. I remember the parties both on and off campus. I remember coming back from Wisconsin with refreshments to share.
